EMAC GFF participants gathered in front of a truck

This newly trained cohort brings the total number of qualified general firefighter staff at EMAC to 20, enhancing their capacity to manage Country, while building capabilities to support fire management agencies across the state.

The training provided a blend of theory and practical exercises that tested participants' concentration, focus and technical abilities. It emphasised teamwork, work ethic, safety, risk management, communication skills, observation, lesson sharing and the importance of enjoying your job.

These skills are fundamental to firefighting and burning operations but are also valuable for EMAC Guardians in their daily work for the community and Country, fostering leadership, commitment and enthusiasm in managing Healthy Country.

General Manager Cultural Landscapes EMAC John Clarke said, “Eastern Maar appreciate the partnership with DEECA Forest Fire Management Victoria and look forward to continuing to build on that relationship going forward.”

Cultural Burn Officers played a vital role, serving as a link between DEECA, CFA and Traditional Owner Groups on matters of self-determination, culturally safe workplaces, relationships, training and navigating processes.
